14 Michael Ovitz Quotes to Celebrate His December 14th Birthday

Michael Ovitz is a former talent agent and Hollywood powerhouse for 20 years. Although he was considered ruthless at times, Michael Ovitz became a leading name and a brilliant contributor as head of the Creative Arts Agency from 1975 to 1995. Let's make his December 14th birthday special with these 14 Michael Ovitz quotes.

1. "Until the day I die, I`ll never be able to understand how I spent 25 years with that man and his family, and within 60 days of taking this position, he decides I`m a number of things."

2. "If I didn't know you personally, I'd throw you out of the room."

3. "It`s not about money. The money will flow. It`s about power and influence."

4. "It is important to recognize when something is not working. I hope that my decision to leave will eliminate an unnecessary distraction for a great company."

5. "He did walk behind me. But it wasn`t a shovel he was carrying. It was a knife."

6. "If you're not being sued by someone, then you must be doing something wrong."

7. "I didn't set off a bomb in a shopping center. I didn't take off in a white Bronco. I'm an entrepreneur. The money I lost was mine. My money, my gamble, my mistake. And still they hate me. Everyone."

8. "I'm just going to say what I'm going to say, and let the cards fall where they may."

9. "If I say nothing, I get killed. If I talk, it comes off as sour grapes."

10. "I'm not trying to say I'm a saint, but when I built CAA I played aggressively, sometimes ruthlessly, insensitively, and I hurt people. Sometimes that's what happens when you build a business."

11. "This is a game in our business you have to be terribly unsophisticated not to understand. This is not rocket science."

12. "I have been known to use an occasional gerund when it serves to make my point. I am very good at confrontation. I think that is part of my job. Ask my clients if they want a laid-back agent or a control freak."

13. "When I get on a plane, I don't want a laid-back pilot. I want a pilot who is a control freak, who is paying attention to every single detail of his job."

14. "That package was way too lucrative for the services performed."

So there you go! Mr. Ovitz had many years as a successful talent agent and take charge guy in Hollywood. We hope you enjoy some pearls of wisdom with these 14 Michael Ovitz quotes.

sculpter Claire McArdle

Today I had the pleasure of visiting with a local artist Claire McArdle in her super cool studio/workshop here in Longmont Colorado. A nice wood burning stove blazing in the shop with wonderful creative and inspirational sculpture in various degrees of completion everywhere. Marble, Travertine, Clay and well a little bit of every type stone. I have to write down all the different italian marbles because they were impressive. Here is her Bio straight from the web.

Claire McArdle is an internationally recognized sculptor. She grew up in the Washington DC metro area where she began studying art in high school. Her regular trips to the National museums at a young age exposed her to a wide range of sculpture from around the world. She was particularly inspired by sculpture of the European modern masters, Old Europe and Africa. After earning a Bachelor in Fine Arts she moved to Italy in 1988 for several years to work with the master carvers in Carrara and continues to travel to Italian quarries to rough out her travertine and marble work.

Currently she works between studios on the eastern shore of Maryland and her ranch on the front range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Her style has been influenced by classical figures and the soul that speaks within tribal art, but her figures emerge from her own personal mythology and archetypes. Her energy for exploring these mysteries and an insatiable passion for working stone, clay, and bronze, combine to create forms with harmonious balance and an ethereal quality.

Explore and shop in over 2.5 million square feet of retail paradise! The Del Amo Fashion Center is a mecca of style and a shop-a-holic's dream.

Many know the Del Amo Fashion Center as the mall where Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown" was filmed. But besides a visit to a now-famous California locale, this massive mall promises a fulfilling shopping experience and plenty of fun. There are over 300 stores here and the décor is filled with ceramic tile, seating areas and plants. From Ann Taylor and American Eagle Outfitters, to the GAP, Guess? MAC, and Macy's, this mall has it all. Some newer arrivals include Anthropologie, Lazy Dog Café, Lucky Strike Lanes, RA Sushi Bar Restaurant and Urban Outfitters. Visitors here will love the new open-air addition to the mall, which is great on a sunny day for a relaxing stroll and people-watching. The indoor portion is great if you happen to visit on a wetter day. When you're ready to relax and have a bite to eat, there are restaurants here to suit all tastes: the De Amo Steakhouse, Johnny Rockets, Jamba Juice, Manchu Wok, Mexican Express, PF Changs, Starbucks and Sushi Boy are just the start. malibu lumber yard

So as the world of viral design ideas ebbs and flows a project was brought to my attention this week by David Porter of the PNL companies. With my head down and scratching and clawing to make a living as a designer I missed the grand opening a few months ago. No worries I found it. Finally a cool set of store designs and a place that breaks the rules of other traditional mini lifestyle centers or quasi town centers. Fun fresh and hip as can be seen as I google those whom visit the area. Hollywood "STARS..."Here is a cut and past from the Malibu Times with the 411. The mall will house approximately 15 retail and food establishments, including the Havana Cafe, a Cuban-style restaurant by Malibu resident and nightclub entrepreneur Rande Gerber, and MILK, a cafe, ice cream and bake shop (the original, owned by Bret Thompson, is in Beverly Hills). In addition, a family-style restaurant is planned for upstairs, in a corner with big glass windows that overlook Pacific Coast Highway with a clear view of the Malibu Lagoon and, ironically, the golf course of the man who sold the land that houses the mall to the city, Jerry Perenchio. A wine, cheese and cold cuts shop will occupy a corner by the planned restaurant. Maxfield, Tory Burch, Intermix, Kitson Men, James Perse, alice + olivia, J.Crew, Planet Blue Kids, Theory and bakeshop Crumbs are other stores that will cater to shoppers. Read the whole story

City Place Market Garden

On the boards for september was a design effort in Fort Worth Texas. Building a character reference library from projects around the world and mixing them with a refreshing graphic and material palettes led to the ideation package. Concepts are simple, sophisticated, sustainable and reflects an inviting downtown missing component. More to come later.

Green Mountain Base Camp

Here is a project on the boards currently for Green Mountain Sports in Lakewood Colorado. Idea is to be efficient with minimal budgets and create a place for ski tunes, bike repair, coffee and a burrito and restroom break before blasting up I-70 for some sports time in the mountains. Situated at the gateway to the rockies the park and ride has a huge amount of turnover during the seasons making this ideal for peoples convenience. Another idea that is just in the infancy of becoming real.

CROSS PROPZ

A buddy of studioLEMONADE stopped by yesterday with a super cool idea that is simple, functional and fits in your backpack on the way to cyclocross practice. Paul McCarthy is headed to Vegas for Interbike Expo and is needed some swap handouts overnight. Crosspropz is an ingenious device he has design and fabricated. Not massed produced yet and still has the CXy feel to it this idea has legs to grow on. For more info on the device email Paul (crosspropz@gmail.com) and get a dozon of these for the teams next practice.

BLUESKY VELO Cup Flyer

A little bit of final preparation going on for the up coming BlueSky Velo Cup. Layout is simple, clean and hopefully easy to read. Big shout out to Keith Harley for some blood sweat and tears over the logo design and the quick poster for the event. (check out their blog) Back to the boards to plug away on the next fun task. Design rocks and the lemonade stand loves working on even the smallest tasks.
