Everything from Nice,France to The block@ Orange a project I worked on years ago for the Mills Corp back when they were still around. Just cool eye candy.

Shift in Color

Posting a low resolution version of a current magazine ad for review. Idea is to shift away from a dominate black and create a more friendly palette. Using a basic color palette that began with Megan Heller of CA and a bucket of images and text and distilling it into something legible and a quick read with hopefully a call to action. Simple and fun.

Modern Doors by Karim Rashid from Albed

If you are searching for a door with a difference, look no further than these smashing modern doors by Karim Rashid from Albed. The Ring and Blow door designs are fascinating sculptural doors that will surprise and delight you! The Ring door features a raised area (referred to as a “volcano”) where one would normally expect to find the handle. Within that “volcano” you can find a metal ring which operates the opening and closing of the door when pulled. Equally surprising, the Blow door has a vertical semi-ellipse on one side of the door. This elegant curving handle defies our expectations of a handle with a highly aesthetic alternative. Add these modern doors to your home – contact Albed.

MoCoLoco Blog of the Standard Hotel NYC

On the The rooftop of the new Standard hotel in New York City hotel owner Andre Balazs shares the finer architectural points of his latest creation. A handful of design bloggers, including MoCo Loco, were invited this afternoon to get a personal tour of the hotel with Mr. Balazs. The new flagship Standard was both built by, and is now operated by, the Balazs company which means that the building design benefited from their years of hotel operating experience and no expense was spared to make it the best guest experience possible (developers are usually not the operators of a building and often cut corners to save money). Examples; colorless/tintless exterior glass to optimize the many views and distance the building from common green glass office buildings, 16 different room types for variety - none of which the traditional shoebox design, wider South facing rooms to take advantage of the abundant light, custom made bathrooms with separate showers and water closet... the list is long. The pictures after the jump tell more of the story. MoCo Loco
Sorry, I had to lift this from MoCo Loco for my reference on the Blog. If you are going to LA or NYC you have to check out the Standard Hotel. By far the best of design and coolness in the hospitality industry. When I am in LA I always stay downtown at the standard because no matter what day of the week there is something cool happening and the design is simple clean and cool.

Framing

The architect in me had to post a snapshot of the interior skeleton/Framing of a current project (Flatirons Bank). I always find the smaller details really do make a project successful. Although not overly complex the simplicity will create an inviting arrival with a bocci chandelier and a Circa Lounge by Steel Case the entry should be a fashionable welcome.

Colorado Homes Ad

In light of the times I am seeing an ever present need to be quick and efficient with opportunity and ideas. The sense that the market demand for sustainable living in the urban corridor is growing rapidly. Everyday I meet someone new that expresses interest in getting out of their car and doing less chores in order to actually start living again rather than mowing their lawn... I heard this yesterday when a friend said to me, " I want to go ride, but I need to take care of the house chores." I do see both sides of the fence when it comes to home buying and the allure of owning property and really am finding this trend toward smaller size and less stuff to be appealing. Where is the balance? Ok I have to go mow my lawn.
